Acquired: IceDogs add Shankar to blueline

Niagara IceDogs’ general manager Joey Burke has announced that the club has acquired defenceman Zach Shankar from the North Bay Battalion in exchange for Niagara’s 5th round pick in 2019.

Shankar has spent the entirety of his OHL career with the North Bay Battalion, posting career highs with 4 goals and 28 points last season along with 120 PIMs. He is a physical defenseman who will bring a veteran presence to a young defensive core, helping to fill the void left by Mantha and Haydon, both recent graduates of the league.

When asked about the acquisition, Burke was quick to comment. “Zach adds a veteran and physical presence to our back end that we were lacking, and we couldn’t be happier to be able to add him today. He is a guy who has gotten better every year, who is very difficult to play against. Zach plays a hard nosed game and it won’t take long for him to become a fan favorite here in Niagara”

With less than a week remaining until training camp, fans won’t have to wait long to see Shankar in action.

The entire IceDogs organization would like to welcome Zachary to the team.
