The IceDogs finished game 2 of this 3 in 3 to start February with a 5-1 win in Kingston!

Kingston captured the 1-0 lead early in the first period, capitalizing on a power play opportunity, but their lead didn’t last long. Jason Robertson scored his team-leading 36th goal of the season in his first game back in Kingston after becoming an IceDog. Robertson’s equalizing goal was cheered by man fans in the building, not just the IceDogs fans who made the trip. Akil Thomas and Bradey Johnson were credited with the assists on J-Rob’s goal. Shortly thereafter, Elijah Roberts’  wrist shot from the blueline blazed past the Frontenacs goaltender to gain the 2-1 lead, with the assists being given to Oliver Castleman and Philip Tomasino. Niagara found themselves on a power play with just over 5 minutes remaining in the first period. Jack Studnicka continued his red hot scoring touch with the man advantage, extending our lead to 2! Ben Jones was credited with the primary assist, while Jason Robertson picked up his second point of the night with the secondary.

The ‘Dogs peppered the Kingston netminder with shots in the second period, but were unable to get any pucks passed him until the dying minutes of the period, on the power play. Christian Sbaraglia made a brilliant play on a Kingston power play to keep the Frontenacs down by 2 goals. On a 5 on 3 man advantage, Kirill Maksimov got on the board with his 31st goal of the season. Maksimov’s 4-1 tally tied him with Johnny Corneil for 8th in goals scored all-time as an IceDog (80). On the second half of the second power play to end the second period, Jason Robertson picked up his 4th point of the night with a beautiful wrap around goal of his own. Heading into the third period, the IceDogs held a 5-1 lead.

Despite continuing to dominate play in the final frame, the IceDogs weren’t able to add another goal to their total, giving Christian Sbaraglia his 2nd OHL win!

The ‘Dogs complete the rest of three-in-three this weekend with two away games against the Ottawa 67’s tomorrow night. They come back to town on Thursday February 7th against the Mississauga Steelheads! This is the last time the ‘Dogs face the Steelheads at home this regular season.
