GAME RECAP: IceDogs return home with big win under their belt!

The ‘Dogs were back in action this afternoon in North Bay, hoping to turn their luck around. This afternoon also marked the first time Zach Shankar played his former team.

Your IceDogs came out with a quick start against the Troops as Johnny Corneil scored his 4th goal of the season after going undetected in from of the Battalion net. Akil Thomas made a great play to keep the puck in the offensive zone at the blueline, found Corneil floating around down low in the zone and the ‘Dogs picked up the first goal of the game! Minutes later, the IceDogs found themselves on the powerplay. Liam Ham and Kirill Maksimov played pass until they could find a lane they liked for the shot. Ham blasted the puck from the blueline off a pass from Maksimov, and Jones redirected Ham’s shot into the back of the net! The ‘Dogs extended their lead to three as Matt Philip redirected a shot by Zach Shankar! The Battalion score two unanswered goals to cut the IceDogs’ lead to 1 by the mid-way point of the second period.

With just over 5 minutes to go in the second period, Matthew Philip scored his 2nd goal of the game to regain the 2-goal lead! Kirill Maksimov picked up his second assist of the game on Philip’s marker. The Battalion cut the lead to one once again toward the end of the third period. Kirill Maksimov nearly put the game away on a breakaway, but he rang the shot off a post. The Battalion continued to press as time winded down, but your ‘Dogs held on to break their losing streak and come home with a big win!

The IceDogs return home this Thursday as the Kingston Frontenac’s come to town.
