GAME RECAP: IceDogs send Colts packing with 6-3 win at home!

The IceDogs were back in action at home tonight as the Barrie Colts came to town for the 2nd time in less than a month. Following their 5-4 come from behind shootout win last night, the IceDogs are looking to continue their winning ways tonight against Barrie.

Most divisional rival games are tough, hard fought games, and with the way this one began, it seemed as though this one would be much of the same. Barrie jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, while dominating in shots. But, the ‘Dogs powerplay came through with the new addition of Sam Miletic down low. Miletic scored his 2nd as a ‘Dog and 18th goal of the season as the IceDogs pulled even with the Colts at 1 on the powerplay. Elijah Roberts and Akil Thomas picked up the assists on Miletic’s goal. Before the end of the period, Sokolov continued his ways against the ‘Dogs and broke the tie as the Colts carried a 2-1 lead into the 2nd period.

To start the 2nd period, the ‘Dogs looked to be missing Carbonara, who had been assessed a game misconduct, but the tides quickly shifted. After gaining some valuable zone time, Bradey Johnson tapped in a shot from Liam Ham from the blueline to tie the game up at 2! Philip Tomasino picked up his 13th assist on the season, as he was credited with the secondary assist. Just over a minute later, Elijah Roberts found his own rebound and tapped in the ‘Dogs 3rd goal of the game to take the lead. Sam Miletic scored his 2nd goal of the game to extend the IceDogs lead to 2! The goals kept coming! Akil Thomas rang the puck off the post, but Elijah Roberts picked up the loose puck to score his 2nd of the game! Sam Miletic was credited with the secondary assist on Roberts’ tally. The second period finished with a 5-2 score in favour of the IceDogs.

The Colts scored a powerplay goal to cut out lead down to 2. Roberts scored his hattrick goal on an empty Barrie next to ice this one! The ‘Dogs finally defeated the Colts by a score of 6-3!

The IceDogs finish their 3 in 3 weekend tomorrow night, in Erie, to play the Otters for the 2nd time in 3 nights. If last night’s game is any indication, it’s sure to be a good one! It will be broadcast live on 610 CKBT, YourTV Niagara, OHL Live. Follow @OHLIceDogs for all in-game updates!
