GAME RECAP: IceDogs win the weekend with 5-3 win over the Otters!

The Niagara IceDogs were in Erie tonight as they closed out their 3 in 3 weekend against the team they started the weekend against, the Otters. After defeating the Otters 5-4 in a shootout and the Colts 6-3 last night, the ‘Dogs were sure to be feeling the effects fo a 3 in 3, but with first place in the division on the line, they came out flying. Colton Incze made his 11th start of the season.

Despite the fast paced start to the game, the Otters came out on top after 20 with a tricky shot that beat Incze high glove side on a powerplay. To start the 2nd period, the ‘Dogs were ready for some revenge on their underwater counterparts. Captain Johnny Corneil scored the equalizer less than two minutes into the game. Ben Jones and Akil Thomas picked up the assists on Johnny’s tying goal. The Otters scored two goals midway through the 2nd period, but in the dying minutes, Ben Jones picked up a stretch pass from Elijah Roberts at the offensive blueline, skated in all alone and beat the Otters’ goalie high stick side to cut the Otters’ lead to 1.

Johnny Corneil picked up his 2nd goal of the season nearing the midway point of the 3rd period picking up a great centring pass in front of the net from Matt Philip. Ben Jones picked up his 3rd point of the game with the secondary assist on the captain’s goal. Then, with less than 8 minutes to play in the 3rd period, Philip Tomasino worked his magic in front of the net. After a mad scramble and three consecutive shots, Philip Tomasino picked up his own rebound right in front of the Otters net and roofed it give the ‘Dogs the 4-3 lead! Drew Hunter picked up the assist on Tomasino’s goal. That was Hunter’s 3rd point in as many games. Miletic iced the game with the ‘Dogs 5th goal of the game, and third of the period, picking up a Thomas pass to put the game out of reach for the Otters! Akil Thomas and Elijah Roberts picked up the assists on Miletic’s 5th goal as an IceDog.
