GAMEDAY PREVIEW: IceDogs look to continue winning ways against Colts
Your Niagara IceDogs have another home game tonight as the Barrie Colts come to town! Tonight’s game is presented by Bruce Power, powering the Ontario Hockey League
Currently, the ‘Dogs sit 2 points behind the Colts, who rank first in the Central Division. Coming of a big come from behind win last night against Erie in a shootout is sure to bring some all-important confidence to the lineup.
Tonight is the third game this season the ‘Dogs will play against Barrie. The ‘Dogs are trailing in their season series against the Colts, without having captured a point, yet. Since their last meeting in December, the ‘Dogs are 6 and 1.
With the recent acquisition of Sam Miletic, the offense looks to have become that much stronger, and is sure to start having an impact on the powerplay, which currently ranks 14th in the league with 19.2% efficiency. The ‘Dogs will be facing the 10th best penalty kill in the league, as the Colts’ PK has an 80% efficiency rate. The ‘Dogs penalty kill has slipped to third from second in the league, and will need to be at it’s best tonight as the ‘Dogs face the offensive likes of Aaron Luchuk, Andrei Svechnikov and Dmitri Sokolov, some of the leagues top scorers.
Akil Thomas has found his way onto the scoresheet plenty of times recently after going through a small drought, but that’s not to say his play hasn’t been valuable to the team. His play without the puck and in the defensive zone has been key to the ‘Dogs success this season. The contributions of secondary scoring from Matthew Philip and Danial Singer has also been vital.
