IceDogs Defeat Steelheads 3-2

The Niagara IceDogs took home a big 3-2 victory over the visiting Mississauga Steelheads at the Gatorade Garden City Complex on Thursday night.

The first period saw the Steelheads draw first blood, as Mississauga scored the only goal of the period sending the IceDogs into the intermission down 1-0.  Shots in the period favoured the visitors 11-9.

Dougie Hamilton would tie things up for Niagara 4:23 into the second putting one past Mississauga starter Tyson Teichmann to make it 1-1.  Mississauga would answer back on the powerplay just over a minute later to retake the lead at 2-1, but the IceDogs would continue to battle until Mike Robinson would put one home in front to tie things up just past the midway point of the period.  That would prove to be the last of the scoring in the period, as the teams were deadlocked at 2-2 after 40 minutes.  Shots after two continued to favour Mississauga 22-20.

The third period would see Broderick Kelly get the IceDogs off to a great start to the period as he ripped a point shot by Teichmann to give the IceDogs their first lead of the game at 3-2 only 1:10 into the frame.  Christopher Festarini and the IceDogs defence would take it from there, as the IceDogs headed home with a 3-2 win.  Final shots were 35-33 for the IceDogs.

Festarini was fantastic again in the win taking home first star honours by stopping 31 of 33 shots for the win.

With the win the IceDogs move to 4-1 and are now tied for the top record in the OHL.

The IceDogs will now hit the road for their Michigan road trip, visiting Saginaw tomorrow night and then heading to Plymouth on Saturday night.  While the games will not be on television, fans should be sure to listen live on 610 CKTB, who will be broadcasting as usual!  The IceDogs will then return home next Thursday night, October 11th when they host the Ottawa 67’s for the first time since last year’s Eastern Conference Finals.
