IceDogs Drop Heartbreaker 4-3 in Belleville

The Niagara IceDogs dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 decision to the Belleville Bulls in Belleville on Saturday.

The first period saw the IceDogs get off to a tough start as Belleville would score twice in the opening 2:18, the second on the powerplay, to take a 2-0 lead.  The IceDogs would bounce back and have their chances in the period, but Belleville would add a second powerplay marker with just over two minutes left in the period to make it 3-0 after one.  Shots in the first were 18-11 Belleville.

The second period saw the IceDogs continue to battle to shrink the deficit and at the 13:46 mark of the frame Brendan Perlini would extend his goal scoring streak to three games, scoring on the powerplay to make it 3-1.  That would prove to be the only goal of the period as the IceDogs headed to the third down by two.  Shots after 40 minutes favoured Belleville 28-20.

Despite their deficit, the IceDogs would not let up in the third and Perlini would strike 1:11 in to bring the IceDogs within one at 3-2.  The IceDogs would continue to battle and would be rewarded at the 11:54 mark of the third, as Carter Verhaeghe would rip one home for the IceDogs second powerplay goal of the game, knotting things up at 3-3.  Unfortunately for the IceDogs, the night of powerplay goals would continue and with only 13.3 second remaining, Belleville would score their third powerplay goal of the night to make it 4-3.  Despite a last surge by the IceDogs with the extra attacker, the IceDogs would fall by that same 4-3 score.  Final shots on the night were 41-31 for the home side.

The IceDogs will now look to close out their weekend with a win as they head to Ottawa tomorrow afternoon to take on the 67’s.  Fans can catch all the action live on 610 CKTB or TVCogeco!  Fans should also be sure to catch the IceDogs this coming Thursday when they return home to take on the North Bay Battalion in a Central Division matchup.  Great seats are still available and can be purchased at any IceDogs ticketing location.
