IceDogs Knock Off Otters 7-4 In Exhibition Action

The Niagara IceDogs defeated the Erie Otters to move to 2-1 in Exhibition action on Thursday night at the Gatorade Garden City Complex.

The IceDogs opened the scoring in the first period as Anthony DiFruscia struck twice in a span of just under two minutes midway through the first period to make it 2-0.  The lead would then be stretched to 3-0 as Steven Shipley scored on the powerplay before the end of the period to make it 3-0.  Shots in the period were 8-7 in favour of the IceDogs.

The second period saw the IceDogs extend the lead again as Brock Beukeboom picked up his third goal in two preseason games by finding the back of the net with a point shot to make it 4-0.  That would prove to be the only goal of the period as the IceDogs outshot the Otters 14-2 in the frame to head to the third with a 4-0 lead.

Ryan Strome would open the third with an unassisted marker to further extend the IceDogs lead to 5-0.  Erie would battle back less than a minute later scoring twice just under a minute apart to cut the Niagara lead to 5-2.  Derek Todosichuk would extend the lead back to three at 11:30 mark of the period, scoring to make it 6-2.  Erie would strike for their second powerplay goal of the period to make it 6-3, before Brett Ritchie would score again to make it 7-3.  A late Erie goal would make it a 7-4 final.

The final shots in the game favoured Niagara 28-25.

The IceDogs will now have a week off before visiting Windsor next Friday night.  The IceDogs will then return home to close out their exhibition schedule on Saturday, September 15th at 7pm against the Sudbury Wolves.
