IceDogs Pick Up Huge 5-2 Win, Lead Eastern Final 3-1

The Niagara IceDogs now lead the Rogers Eastern Conference Final three games to one after a big 5-2 victory over the Ottawa 67’s in Ottawa on Wednesday night!

The first period saw the IceDogs fall behind for the third consecutive game, as an Ottawa shorthanded goal would prove to be the only goal of the period, sending the IceDogs into the intermission down 1-0.  Shots in the period were 15-12 in favour of Niagara, but Mark Visentin was fantastic in the period to keep the deficit at only one.

The second period saw a solid performance by the IceDogs who carried the play for much of the period and were finally rewarded when, with just over two minutes left in the period, Andrew Agozzino tied things up at 1-1.  That would prove to be the only goal of the period as Niagara and Ottawa would find themselves tied after 40 minutes for the fourth straight game.

After a solid second, the IceDogs would get off to a tough start in the third as Ottawa would regain the lead, after a goal that required video review made it 2-1.  The IceDogs would be unfazed however as Agozzino continued his strong play with his second goal of the game to tie things up again at 2-2.  The IceDogs dominant overage play would not stop there as David Pacan would sneak one by Petr Mrazek to give the IceDogs their first lead of the night at 3-2 less than a minute later.  Pacan would then keep it going picking up a second straight goal, this time on the powerplay, to make it 4-2 IceDogs.  Freddie Hamilton would finish things off with an empty net goal with five seconds to go to give the IceDogs their second straight 5-2 victory.

Visentin was tremendous in the victory stopping 36 of 38 shots for the win.  The IceDogs were led offensively by Agozzino and Pacan’s two goals, as well as Freddie Hamilton who had three assists to go with his empty net goal.

The IceDogs will now return back to the Gatorade Garden City Complex where they will host Ottawa in game five of the Rogers Eastern Conference Final on Friday night.
