IceDogs Take Home Exhibition Opener 6-5 over Oshawa

The Niagara IceDogs took their home exhibition opener 6-5 over the visiting Oshawa Generals on Monday afternoon.

The first period saw Brock Beukeboom open the scoring 3:04 in to give the IceDOgs an early 1-0 lead.  Oshawa would answer back shortly after to tie things up at 1-1, before Carter Verhaeghe scored to make it 2-1 midway through the period.  That score would remain that way headed into the first intermission.  Shots in the period favoured Oshawa 11-8.

The second period would see the IceDogs stretch the lead to 3-1 on a powerplay goal by Aaron Haydon.  The lead would be cut to 3-2 minutes later, before David Sysala would answer back for Niagara to make it 4-2.  Ondrej Kopta would then strike for the IceDogs for their second powerplay goal of the game to make it 5-2.  Oshawa would then come storming back with three goals of their own to make it 5-5 through 40 minutes.  Shots after two were 28-16 in favour of the visitors.

The third period would see the teams battle back and fourth as the goalies kept things tied until, with three minutes left, Beukeboom would strike on the powerplay for his second goal of the night, giving the IceDogs a 6-5 lead.  That would prove to be it for the scoring as the IceDogs took home the victory.  Final shots were 36-23 for Oshawa.

With the win the IceDogs move to 1-1 on the exhibition schedule and will be back home on Thursday night for their third game of the preseason as they host the visiting Erie Otters.  Game time is scheduled for 7pm at the Gatorade Garden City Complex and tickets are once again $10 for adults and $5 for youth/seniors, so be sure to bring out the entire family and join us for what is the best entertainment value in town!
