IceDogs vs. Rangers: Live Game Blog

We’re back at it tonight for the Niagara IceDogs second preseason game. Another game means another live game blog! This time we’re on the road in Kitchener, facing off against the Rangers. A lot of the big boys are in the lineup tonight, so this one should be fun.

These two teams split the season series last year a game apiece, with neither ending in regulation. There were 20 combined goals in those two games, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see a bunch of goals here tonight.

The IceDogs looked quite impressive Sunday night in Niagara Falls. They crushed the Oshawa Generals 7-1 thanks to a total team effort. The Rangers have also played one preseason game so far, a 2-1 shootout win over the Mississauga Steelheads.

Brendan Perlini, Carter Verhaeghe, Vince Dunn, Aaron Haydon, Anthony DiFruscia, Jordan Maletta and Mikkel Aagaard will all be in the lineup today, after sitting out against the Generals.

Let’s take a look at the rosters for both teams:

FIRST PERIOD

1:04: 1-0 Rangers
The Rangers strike on the first chance of the game. Richard makes a nice first save but Darby Llewellyn taps the rebound past the sprawled goaltender.

2:47: Rangers almost get another one as Meighan is left all alone out front. Luckily the pass was in his skates.

4:55: Wilkie and Mascherin come together with a gang. Wilkie gets the worst of it but he jumps right back up.

5:33: In his OHL debut, Aagaard skates back hard to break up the Rangers rush. Great display of effort from the Dane.

6:08: 1-1 Tie
The point shot from Mikulovich finds its way through traffic and beats DeKort. The good guys don’t take long to respond and we have ourselves a tie game.

8:07: Verhaeghe’s stick comes up a little too high and the IceDogs will get the first penalty of the game.

9:43: The puck comes hard off the end-boards from the point shot and Richard does well to react and keep it out. Big save to keep this one tied. Rangers pouring on the pressure on the power play.

11:17: Maaskant shoves Miku from behind after the whistle and Haydon gets in his face to stand up for his teammate. They’ll both sit and we’ll play a little four on four.

12:10: Huge save by Richard on Iafrate who walked in all alone.

12:17: Franzen gets called for holding the stick and the IceDogs will have a four on three power play.

12:47: Parade to the box. Another Kitchener penalty, this time Hora for tripping.

13:21: 2-1 IceDogs
The power play makes Kitchener pay as Dunn’s shot beats DeKort. Best part? IceDogs remain on the power play.

Well this is odd. Due to the ice needing a bit of repairing, the first period is being called with 6:39 remaining. The time will be added to the second period.

DUE TO ICE CONDITIONS, TONIGHT’S GAME HAS BEEN CALLED SHORT.
