GAME RECAP | IceDogs Beat the Petes

The ‘Dogs were back in home action to a sold out Meridian Centre crowd this evening to play host to the Peterborough Petes. The last time these two teams faced each other, on Monday, February 18th, Niagara came out on top after scoring 4 first period goals.

The first period, a rare penalty-less opening frame, ended with a 1-0 IceDogs lead! Oliver Castleman opened the scoring just under 8 minutes into the game with a wrister from the slot. Drew Hunter was credited with the lone assist on the only tally heading into the second period.

Ivan Lodnia made his return to the line-up after missing significant time to injury, but he made his presence known in a big way! Lodnia scored early in the 2nd period to double our lead to 2! Then, less than 5 minutes into the third period, Lodnia scored his 2nd of the game with a highlight reel tic-tac-goal off a feed from Robertson and Studnicka! The goals kept coming as Philip Tomasino scored his 30th of the season under a minute later! Robertson and Studnicka combined for the assists on Tomasino’s goal. On their first power play opportunity of the game, Philip Tomasino drew another call for a 5 on 3, but before the 2 man advantage could begin, Oliver Castleman scored another beauty from the slot to give the ‘Dogs the 5-0 lead! Despite a few late penalties, the ‘Dogs penalty kill remained perfect through 2 games!

The ‘Dogs dominated the final minutes of the third period to hold on to the shut-out for Stephen Dhillon to mark his 90th career OHL win, setting a new IceDogs franchise record!

The ‘Dogs are back in action at home next Sunday afternoon to the Sarnia Sting, following 3 games on the road in Owen Sound, North Bay, and Barrie.
