The Niagara IceDogs are proud to announce that Joey Burke has been named as the team’s General Manager.
After beginning his tenure with the IceDogs as the team’s goaltending scout in our inaugural season, Joey continued to climb the ranks within the organizations scouting staff, before being named as Assistant General Manager prior to the 2010-2011 season. Joey held the title until the 2016-2017 season, where he was promoted to Director of Player Personnel.
As IceDogs’ Director of Player Personnel, Joey made a collection of trades acquiring six 2nd round picks, four 3rd round picks, as well as a 4th, 5th, and 6th round pick in the next four OHL Priority Selection Drafts, while making important changes to improve the team, that was going through a rebuild following an appearance in the franchise’s 2nd OHL Final. Making key trades at the January deadline to acquire Justin Brack and Kirill Maksimov proved to pay dividends down the stretch as the youngest team in the Canadian Hockey League clinched a playoff berth for the tenth consecutive year. It was Joey’s continued confidence in his team’s abilities that has made the tradition of making the playoffs every year since the franchise was moved to the Niagara Region continue.
The Niagara IceDogs would like to congratulate Joey for becoming the franchise’s third general manager, and look forward to a bright future of IceDogs hockey!
