Niagara IceDogs Select Daniil Gushchin 4th Overall in CHL Import Draft

Niagara, ON – The Niagara IceDogs have selected Daniil Gushchin 4th overall in the 2020 CHL Import Draft.

Gushchin, a 2002 left winger, has played with the Muskegon Lumberjacks for the past two seasons. In the 2018-19 season, he scored 16 goals and 20 assists in 51 games. This past season, he scored 22 goals and 25 assists in 42 games.

He is originally from Yekaterinburg, Russia.

He has represented Russia internationally several times:

In 2017, at the World under-17 Hockey Challenge, in 5 games he scored 4 goals and finished the tournament with 5 points.

He played in the 2018 and 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, capturing medals in both tournaments. In 2018, he helped Russia to a Bronze medal with 6 points (3 goals, 3 assists) in 5 games. In 2019, he helped Russian win a Gold medal with 2 points in 5 games.

At the 2019 U18 World Championship, he captured a Silver medal, with 2 points. At the 2019 World Jr. A Challenge, he helped Russia to a Gold medal with 3 points in 6 games.

He was previously drafted in the 2019 CHL Import Draft by the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League.

He is projected to be drafted in the 2020 NHL Draft. In the NHL Central Scouting Service’s final draft rankings, he was listed at 41 amongst all North American skaters.
