Tomasino and Sopa named First and Second Star of October 4th 2019

1ST STAR: PHILIP TOMASINO (NIAGARA ICEDOGS) – 3G, 3A
Nashville Predators first round pick Philip Tomasino tied a Niagara IceDogs single game franchise record on Friday, putting up six points in an 8-4 win over the visiting Kingston Frontenacs. Tomasino follows David Pacan as just the second player in Niagara IceDogs history to put up six points in a game, doing so for the first time since March 5, 2011. The 18-year-old from Mississauga, Ont. recorded his first career OHL hat-trick along with three assists, increasing his point total to an impressive 15 (5-10–15) through his first seven contests. The 24th overall pick of the 2019 NHL Draft, Tomasino was originally Niagara’s first round (5th overall) pick in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection.

2ND STAR: KYEN SOPA (NIAGARA ICEDOGS) – 3G, 2A
Swiss sophomore Kyen Sopa was all over the scoresheet on Friday, recording his first OHL hat-trick along with two assists as the Niagara IceDogs defeated the Kingston Frontenacs 8-4 on home ice. Sopa’s hat-trick came in the first period as he pulled it off in a span of just under 11 minutes. The 19-year-old native of Flawil, Switzerland has 12 points (7-5–12) through his first seven games of the season. He was Niagara’s first round (32nd overall) pick in the 2018 CHL Import Draft.

3RD STAR: RILEY DAMIANI (KITCHENER RANGERS) – 3G
Dallas Stars prospect Riley Damiani helped the Kitchener Rangers dig out of a 2-0 hole, netting his third career OHL hat-trick in a 6-4 win over the visiting Owen Sound Attack. Damiani was reunited with linemate Greg Meireles and went to work recording nine shots on goal while going 10-for-19 in the faceoff circle. The 19-year-old fourth-year veteran has eight points (4-4–8) through four games this season. He was Dallas’ fifth round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft.
