Constantinou Commits to IceDogs

Niagara IceDogs’ General Manager Joey Burke is pleased to announce that 2017 Second Round Selection Billy Constantinou has agreed to a Standard Player Agreement with the Club. The defenseman was selected in the 2nd round, 36th overall by the IceDogs in this year’s Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection and has officially committed to the team by signing his Standard Player Agreement.

Newly promoted General Manager Joey Burke confirmed the signing after the IceDogs enjoyed their yearly Rookie Orientation Day. “I could not be more excited to make it official with Billy. He was the most skilled offensively minded defenceman available in the draft, and is going to fit in perfectly with our fast dynamic group. To be able to add a talent like Billy in the second round is extremely rare, and we couldn’t be happier as an organization to call Billy an IceDog. Our future together is very bright!”

The 5’11” defenseman was a dynamic force in minor midget as he anchored the blueline for the Toronto Marlboros of the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL). He brought a steady defensive presence combined with excellent offensive capabilities to the Marlboros backend on a nightly basis. His game breaking skill helped lead the Marlboros to a finalist finish in the GTHL.

Constantinou also had an excellent showing at the OHL Gold Cup, where as a member of Team GTHL Blue, he produced a goal and 3 assists over 5 games.

When asked about the commitment, Constantinou said, “I’m really excited. It’s an honour to officially sign with the IceDogs. I’m ready to work hard all summer to prepare for training camp and the season. I’m very honoured and thankful for everyone who has helped me along the way”

Assistant coach, Billy Burke, praised Constantinou on his dynamic offensive abilities, and is excited to get to work. “Billy is one of the most dynamic offensive defensemen in his draft class that our scouting staff had targeted all year. [He’s] a great young guy who wants to do everything to get better. Billy is going to be a big part of our back end going forward and we are thrilled to have him all signed up”

Fans will be on the edge of their seats watching Billy’s game breaking ability from the backend.

Congratulations Billy, and Welcome to Niagara!
