Your Niagara IceDogs were in Saginaw this evening to close out their Michigan road swing . The ‘Dogs came into this game riding a 4-game win streak with wins against the 67s, Steelheads, Otters, and Firebirds, and the ‘Dogs were hoping to continue what’s made them successful in recent game. This game marked the first time Kirill Maksimov played against his former team.
The Spirit scored early in the first period, in their Teddy Bear Toss game, to send the teddies flying. But, on the powerplay less than 10 minutes remaining in the first period, Kirill Maksimov tied the game off a one timer from his place above the face off circle. Liam Ham and Akil Thomas each picked up points with the assists on Maksimov’s 16th goal of the season. The Spirit scored midway through the second period to gain the 2-1 lead. In the dying seconds of the period, it looked as though Danial Singer had scored a powerplay marker, on a delayed penalty to the Spirit, but the goal was overturned on an offsides call. Despite carrying the play for much of the game, the ‘Dogs couldn’t solve the Spirit goalie. The Spirit added an empty netter to take this one by a score of 3-1.
The IceDogs return home this Thursday, as the London Knights visit the Meridian Centre.
