Niagara IceDogs General Manager Joey Burke is pleased to announce that 2017 First Round Selection Philip Tomasino has signed a Standard Player Agreement with the Club. The forward, selected in the 1st round, 5th overall by the IceDogs in this year’s Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection has committed to the team by signing his Standard Player Agreement.
Newly promoted General Manager Joey Burke announced the signing earlier today. “This is a big day for the IceDogs organization. To be able to make it official with an elite young talent like Philip is extremely exciting, and adds yet another young talented player to our already maturing dynamic lineup. The addition of Philip lends to the culture we are creating here in Niagara, and this signing pushes us that much closer to the championship we have been striving for. Myself and our staff had Philip at the top of our list all year long, and to be able not only to draft him, but to sign him to the IceDogs makes this a very exciting day for our organization and fans, and I myself couldn’t be more thrilled. Philip is a great young man with a fantastic family, and we look forward to the success we will have here together in Niagara. ”
The 5’11” forward was dominant in minor midget as a member of the Mississauga Rebels of the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL). He showed off his offensive capabilities with an astonishing 37 goals and 68 points over 54 games, helping his team to championship titles at both the Titan’s Tournament and Whitby Silverstick, as well as the GTHL championship.
Tomasino also just returned from competing at the OHL Gold Cup, where as a member of Team GTHL Blue, he led the tournament in scoring with 5 goals and 10 points in just 5 games.
When asked about the commitment Tomasino said “I’m very excited and honored to be a part of such a great organization and I can’t wait to get started and be a part of the Niagara IceDogs. This is a dream come true and to actually become an IceDog is surreal.”
Fans can look forward to watching Philips exciting fast paced playing style at the Meridian Centre in September.
Congratulations Philip and Welcome to Niagara!
